KEVICC is a 1,700 place, 11-19, mixed comprehensive with Performing Arts specialist status. It is a non-uniform school, with a very large sixth form, and an integrated Year 7 structure that is not tied to the National Curriculum. Exam results at the school are good and the school is extremely successful and popular, with entry to Year 7 being regularly over-subscribed. The school provides a wide-ranging and stimulating curriculum and is currently applying for accreditation to offer the International Baccalaureate. The school also has strong international links at the same time as being engaged, at all levels, with the local learning community. Following the successful and dynamic twelve-year tenure of the current Principal, Stephen Jones, the school is looking to develop its reputation and success still further with the appointment of a new Principal, from September 2009.

Big boost for improvements in Devon primary schools

PRIMARY schools across Devon are set for a major improvement boost of nearly £30 million over the next two years. Devon County Council is one of only 41 local authorities to have its building plans given the full green light by the Government. Ministers have agreed to grant Devon £14 million over the next two years and the county will double this from its own resources. The Government's Primary Capital Programme calls for half the nation's primary schools to be refurbished or rebuilt in the next 14 years.
Sally Brooks, Deputy Director of Schools Capital for the Department for Children, Schools and Families, praised Devon's vision. She said today's announcement would enable Devon to move ahead with planning and procuring its initial projects.

Fit & Active Devon Primary Pupils Surpass National Targets

ALMOST EVERY primary school pupil in Devon is doing at least three hours of high quality physical exercise a week - a figure which is surpassing national targets by a big margin.
The Government says 85 per cent of pupils should do at least two hours of high quality PE and school sport a week.
But Devon has devised its own scheme to promote physical activity in schools and over 99 per cent of the county's primaries now provide at least two hours of physical education within the curriculum as part of the Devon PEDPASS programme.
