Devon's Children and Young People's Services have been short-listed for the prestigious Beacon Status awarded jointly by three Government departments. The accolade recognises the pioneering work the authority is doing in ensuring services are tailored to the local needs of communities across Devon.

The work Devon is already doing will be used as an example of good practice for other local authorities to follow. The practice is called strategic commissioning and involves everyone involved in providing services for children in Devon. It means that services are more closely tailored to what communities and families need.
