PRIMARY schools across Devon are set for a major improvement boost of nearly £30 million over the next two years. Devon County Council is one of only 41 local authorities to have its building plans given the full green light by the Government. Ministers have agreed to grant Devon £14 million over the next two years and the county will double this from its own resources. The Government's Primary Capital Programme calls for half the nation's primary schools to be refurbished or rebuilt in the next 14 years.
Sally Brooks, Deputy Director of Schools Capital for the Department for Children, Schools and Families, praised Devon's vision. She said today's announcement would enable Devon to move ahead with planning and procuring its initial projects.
